Hazardous Waste Operational Compliance

At Veolia we will treat and dispose waste as per EPA requirements and procedures for hazardous waste with appropriately licensed and compliant vehicles and drivers, utilising a hazardous waste tracking system as per EPA requirements.

In general materials/waste will be disposed:

  • As per EPA requirements and procedures for all waste types;
  • On customer premises; if this is not possible/suitable then hazardous waste will be disposed or treated at a controlled waste facility as per EPA regulatory requirements.

Veolia’s business management system helps to ensure compliance with all applicable legal and other requirements. The advantage of working with Veolia as the end-to-end solution provider is the plugging in of a single compliance culture, a harmonised set of processes and procedures and a single business management system to ensure business continuity measures are established and risk and hazard identification practices are well entrenched.

Which standards does Veolia comply with?

Veolia’s operations comply with international management system standards, including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, AS/NZS 4801, OHSAS 18001 and, where locally applied, ISO 22000 and PAS 55. Veolia also complies with the requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act 2002.

How does Veolia manage compliance?

We manage our compliance performance through compliance programs in accordance with the principles of AS/NZS 3806 and in conjunction with the risk management structure.

We also ensure compliance through a combination of behavioural and procedural systems:

  • Behavioural compliance is achieved through regular and ongoing training, effective internal communication, providing incentives for compliance and enforcing compliance through performance management and disciplinary action
  • Procedural compliance is achieved by ensuring the requirements of laws, regulations, codes, organisational standards and contracts are incorporated into all business management system documentation.
