Discover Our Diverse Range of Contaminated Soil Treatment and Management Services
Veolia delivers an end to end solution for contaminated soil, including identification, excavation, transportation, treatment and disposal. Our teams collaborate with you to understand your specific needs, goals, and other factors such as site operations and location. Using these insights, we develop sustainable and innovative solutions to suit you, offering both on-site and off-site soil treatment options.
For emergency situations, Veolia can manage cleanups and handle post-spill investigation and remediation requirements. Contaminated material is moved off-site in a safe and timely manner, minimising the risks of environmental impacts.
Soil Management
Our services cover all areas across the lifecycle of contaminated soil management. Veolia’s key capabilities include:
Onsite Contaminated Soil Treatment
We offer a range of onsite soil treatment and remediation services to support your needs and deliver safe and sustainable results.
Stabilisation | Contamination | Thermal desorption | Bioremediation | Abatement |
---|---|---|---|---|
Stabilisation reduces the mobility of pollutants in the soil by modifying the contaminant’s chemistry or through ‘solidification’ (physical binding) to achieve a less leachable and bioavailable form of the contaminant to ensure its safety. | Onsite containment may be preferred for sites with large volumes of material, where space is not limited and its management would not impede on future land uses. It involves the secure encapsulation of impacted soil in circumstances where it is safe and compliant to do so, and where it is the most sustainable solution. | Heating some contaminants separates them from the soil they are impacting, allowing them to be captured and removed on site using extraction bores. This advanced technology is readily utilised by Veolia internationally. | Bioremediation harnesses natural biological breakdown to degrade contamination in soil. This solution can be undertaken in situ or ex situ, and can be expedited with the help of mixing additives into the soil. Our strategy is tailored to the characteristics of material and level of contamination. | Abatement is offered for non-friable asbestos to remove the asbestos fragments from soil and dispose of it appropriately. This minimises the quantity of material being disposed off site and can be a more cost-effective solution for small volumes. |
Veolia Soil Treatment Facilities
Our dedicated remedial treatment facilities are available for off-site soil removal and treatment.
Ti Tree Bioenergy, Queensland | Veolia Environmental Services Brooklyn, Victoria | Taylors Road Resource Recovery Precinct, Victoria |

Ti Tree Bioenergy is a waste disposal facility that utilises bioreactor technology to rapidly stabilise waste while capturing environmentally damaging methane and converting it into electricity. | Veolia has been operating a liquid, hazardous, and chemical waste treatment facility in Brooklyn since 1997 and is licensed by the Victorian EPA to receive a variety of prescribed waste streams, including contaminated soils. The facility services numerous Victorian industrial sectors, from metals manufacturing, automotive, petrochemical, food and beverage and quarantine waste. | Taylors Road RRP houses EarthSure: a state-of-the-art thermal desorption facility that treats Category A and B contaminated soils. |
What is contaminated soil?
Contaminated soil is soil polluted with organic and inorganic contaminants, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), heavy metals, PAHs, TPH, acid sulphate or pesticides.
What is soil remediation?
Contaminated soil needs to be remediated to remove contaminants. This involves the soil being excavated and treated on site or transported and treated at a licensed facility. Thermal treatment can be used to destroy or remove organic contaminants within soil reducing waste to landfill.
