The power of resource recovery grows from within our Australian homes and businesses. Veolia’s Vitagro takes raw organic materials generated by households and businesses and produces high quality composts, soil conditioners, garden mixes and mulches.

What is Vitagro?

Vitagro is a soil conditioner made from residential food and garden waste, organic liquid waste and commercial organic feedstocks. Using Vitagro helps to  improve soil moisture retention and aeration leading to increased plant vigour. As a result, plants are hardier and can better withstand the stresses associated with drought and disease. Vitagro also provides an environmentally-friendly alternative to chemical fertilisers.

Why does compost play a vital role?

Benefits:

  • Composting diverts organic waste from Landfill, aiding waste reduction and reducing methane emissions
  • Composting programs create local jobs and stimulate economic growth
  • Composting projects can yield carbon credits, tradable on carbon markets or employed by organisations for emission offsets
  • Compost enriches soil with diverse microorganisms, boosting nutrient cycling and soil vitality
  • Compost microbes can suppress pathogens, reducing reliance on pesticides. They break down organic matter, releasing nutrients and converting atmospheric nitrogen for plant use
  • Compost supplies vital macro and micro nutrients, promoting healthy plant growth. Decreasing reliance on synthetic fertilisers
  • Compost helps stabilise and buffer soil pH, supporting plant growth in optimal conditions
  • Slow release of nutrients minimises nutrient leaching and runoff
  • Compost components can bind to heavy metals, reducing their bioavailability and potential harm to the environment.
  • Compost-amended soil retains moisture more effectively, reducing water stress on plants and reducing  irrigation needs
  • Compost improves soil structure, alleviating soil compaction, improving drainage, aeration, and root penetration
  • Improved soil structure reduces soil erosion, protecting valuable topsoil and preventing sediment runoff
