Veolia has a responsibility to ensure that we as a company are minimising the impact our operations and activities have on the environment.
Veolia has implemented a number of systems and processes to ensure our operations and activities across waste management, water solutions, and energy services comply with current regulations as stipulated by Federal and State Government and leading industry bodies.
Our goal is to provide comprehensive, high-value solutions that balance growth with environmental protection and climate resilience, delivering vital resources and solutions to the businesses and communities we serve. We pride ourselves on building strong relationships with industry partners that facilitate the safe and effective operation of our activities.
Environmental reporting reflects how our operations are performing with relation to their potential impact on communities and the natural environment. This is central to our license to operate. As part of our due diligence, our environmental monitoring data is publicly available on our Reports page.
Environmental policies & action plans
Government & industry body participation
Veolia subscribes to Federal, State, and industry environmental reporting standards.
NSW Environment Protection Authority (EPA)
Veolia's NSW operations adheres to the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 (POEO Act 1997), an environmental regulatory framework that includes licensing required for particular operational activities.
These protection licences are produced in accordance with the NSW State Government, and are a central means to control the localised, cumulative, and acute impacts of pollution in NSW. Holders like Veolia must make publicly available monitoring data which reflects the relevant impact of these activities.

NSW Pollution Incident Response Management Plan (PIRMP)
The PIRMP provides an overarching framework for NSW sites to augment their site-specific incident or emergency documentation. It details how Veolia deploys pollution incident responses, and communicates with workers and other stakeholders who may be impacted in the case of a pollution event (such as the general public and relevant authorities). This includes guidance on the information required to be published by Veolia.
The Protection of the Environment Legislation Amendment Act 2011 (POELA Act 2011) requires holders of an Environment Protection Licence (EPL) to prepare and implement a PIRMP. Under Part 5.7A of the POEO Act 1997 and the Protection of the Environment Operations (General) Regulation 2009 (POEO General Regulation 2009), the specific requirements for preparing, keeping, testing, and implementing a PIRMP for Veolia's NSW facilities with EPLs are covered by site-specific incident and emergency response documentation. These details provide guidance for minimising and controlling the risk of a pollution incident through the appropriate identification of hazards and implementation of controls and responsibilities to mitigate risks.
Below are listed the PIRMPs for Veolia's NSW EPL facilities and transportation.
Australian Packaging Covenant (APCO)
Veolia is a member of APCO - the voluntary component of a co-regulatory arrangement for the management of environmental impacts of consumer packaging in Australia.
The Covenant is a commitment by industry and government for the sustainable design, use, and recovery of packaging. It is Australia's way of managing the impacts of packaging and offers a highly efficient and collaborative solution.
Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA)
Veolia participates in the TSA program, committing our expertise to the safe and environmentally sustainable recovery and treatment of discarded tyre materials.
