We acknowledge the impact of the ongoing discharge of wastewater from the Moa Point Wastewater Treatment Plant and the associated impact on residents, businesses, and the wider community. The causes of this event are currently under investigation by a Crown Review and the regulator Greater Wellington Regional Council.
We will not speculate on the causes or possible outcomes of the Crown Review at this time, as it has yet to complete its investigation and make a report. As Mayor of Wellington Andrew Little noted, it is important to keep an open mind. We have fully cooperated with all investigations and are making good progress as we work in concert with Tiaki Wai to bring Moa Point back online for the community.
We stand by the expertise of our people, technology and global experience.
As has been reported repeatedly and acknowledged by governments of all stripes, New Zealand has significant water management issues caused by systemic, multigenerational underinvestment in infrastructure and people.
Despite these formidable obstacles, we remain committed to New Zealand. We will continue to assist the relevant authorities on the investment decisions needed to bring New Zealand up to the international standards the community expects.
